Scam Alert – $1,300 FedEx Envelope is a Fake

December 18, 2013

FedEx Mail Check Scam

Residents of Pleasanton and Jourdanton are warned about a check scam coming from FedEx.

Investigators report several residents have received a FedEx envelope with a check inside. When they call the bank named on the check the number is disconnected.

The check has the name Huntington Bank on it from Toledo, Ohio. Police said the crooks are hoping you’ll cash the check so they can get your banking information.

There’s little local police can do to investigate such a scam, but they do urge victims to turn the checks in so they can forward them to federal authorities.

FedEx released this statement: “FedEx values the integrity and trust our customers place in us. We strongly recommend customers not assume certified checks promising future payments or any unsolicited checks delivered through the FedEx network are legitimate. Customers should be especially suspicious if the offer seems too goo to be true or it it’s a lottery or sweepstakes they did not enter. FedEx continues to work with law enforcement to help identify scams so criminals can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
