New Identity Theft Scam Targets Hacked Cell Phone Accounts
July 1, 2016New Scam WARNING targets cell phone accounts.
Scammers are taking total control of people’s cell phone numbers without the phone ever leaving their hands.
Accounts can be hijacked and the federal government says it’s a growing problem.
Experts say criminals find names linked to specific phone numbers. They then create a fake I.D. with the owner’s personal information, go to a phone store and buy or upgrade phones on that account..
The best way to protect yourself is to be cautious about what information you post on social media sites and to create an extra password or pin that’s required before anyone can make any changes to the mobile-phone account.
