Fraudulent Fundraising for Officer

Fraudulent Fundraising for Officer

September 27, 2016

More than one dozen fraudulent GoFund Me accounts were set up to assist the family of Officer Betty Shelby of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The local President of the department’s FOP has established a Fundly account to assist the family with expenses, however accounts are becoming more suspicious as money has gone missing.

Patrick Stephens, President of the Tulsa FOP Lodge #93, has established a Fundly Account after receiving information that people from across the country were setting up fraudulent donation accounts using the popular site GoFund Me.

Stephens tells Law Officer this fund is to assist the Shelby family with their upcoming expenses. He says that “Betty is presumed innocent and needs your support.” The Fundly account “I Stand With Betty” was set up on 9/23/2016 by the president who says the funds will support the Shelby family 100%.
